DHS welcomed hundreds of new students on Friday, August 28 for a busy morning of introductions and orientation activities. Our Senior Class Link Crew designed a program that connected every new student with a faculty member and a senior, a relationship that will last all year long and beyond. The new smaller Link (homeroom) groups of ten or fewer students is intended to foster a more personal relationship for the Class of 2019, and will form the bedrock of their connection to the entire DHS community over the next four years. Students also ran through a mock day where they visited their classes and met faculty and staff. How many times was the question posed “Do you know where you’re going?” Hard to calculate because every person in the building was excited to help students get from class to class (and rest assured that will continue into our first week). A warm welcome to all our new students, we look forward to sharing your journey as you choose it! New students and Link Crew (in yellow shirts) began the day in the Auditorium.
Link Crew, all smiles on a beautiful day.

The Darien High School Courtyard is a wonderful place for students to commune. Thanks to the DHS Parents Association, and the Classes of 2015 and 2012, we have new Adirondack chairs to further enhance this gathering space. Students are free to move the chairs around in the Courtyard (but only in the Courtyard please). It will be a great place to linger but don’t be late for class!
Thank you to our students who have volunteered to be part of this year’s Link Crew, and be responsible for welcoming our freshman and new students to Darien High School. Their energetic training session was held on Tuesday, August 26, where students shared activities meant to emphasize school community building. Thank you as well to our equally energtic faculty advisers Louise Dobson, Lauren LaRusso, Denise Massari, and Chris Buckley. Look for the Link Crew in their bright yellow shirts at freshman orientation on Friday, August 28 and throughout the year!
It’s almost time! We are all so excited to see you again and can’t wait to start another great year. Be sure to look for your schedule in Aspen on August 27, and print it out for our first day on Monday, August 31 (hint: you can also take a screenshot with your phone). As a reminder, we won’t have a Homeroom first thing on Monday (that’s why you need to print your schedule) but you can view your new homeroom location on Aspen. More on our exciting new Homeroom format soon. See you on Monday, if not before!
