Or rather, welcome to all our new students! Our Link Leaders orchestrated a fabulous orientation program this morning, with just about every incoming freshman attending along with students new to DHS from other grades. Well done!
Tomorrow the fun really begins, we look forward to seeing each and every one of you in the morning. Remember to bring a copy of your schedule with you (hint: take a photo), and of course, your famous energy for life and learning. Sleep fast!
Our new school year is almost upon us. First sign? Our remarkable seniors arrive for Link Crew training and spend the day preparing for the arrival of freshmen and new students.
Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and helps them adjust and feel comfortable throughout their first year. Built on the belief that students can help other students succeed, Link Crew Leaders are mentors who guide and facilitate the freshman experience – from academics to clubs and activities and the social scene.
Over 100 Class of 2017 members have signed on this year, and 85 attended the intensive training session on Wednesday, August 24.
The Link Crew’s first assignment (and heck yes, they accepted it with gusto) is to organize and run Freshman and New Student Orientation on Wednesday August 31. There on out, a couple crew members will be assigned to each Freshman Advisory (homeroom) group and stay with them throughout the year. This is a commitment that will reap untold benefits as the year progresses.
Special thanks to School Counselor Meghan Emanuelson has been very busy corralling our student forces. We started the new year in June with a “Hello Class of 2020” event on the first day of summer vacation. Based on the number of students who attended, it was a smash hit!
We can’t wait for Wednesday, thank you to each and every one of you! And since we can’t emphasize it enough, a reminder: every adult in the building is here for you. If you have any need or question, come see us. We are here to help. Welcome!
